The day all faithful Nintendo devotees have been waiting patiently for is almost here: "Pikmin 3" arrives later this weekend. And the reviews thus far have pained a very positive picture; the game apparently is well worth the wait.
But as it turns out, in addition to something that finally helps justify one's Wii U purchase, Pikmin 3 also contains a very special mission from Shigeru Miyamoto himself.
In a recent Miiverse post, the game's creator revealed that there's some kind of secret code, but in order to unlock it, you have to do a little hunting:
"Hello, Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo here.
To all of you playing Pikmin 3, I hope you've enjoyed yourselves so far.
I don't suppose you've come across any Secret Memos while playing through the Story?
Did you know that once you've collected ten of these Secret Memos, the numbers contained in them will combine to form a special code? I'll be in touch again to explain how to use the code, so be sure to make a note of it once you have it!
Oh, and don't forget to check out Mission and Bingo Battle - they're a lot of fun too!"
As if Nintendo diehards needed yet another reason to get excited for the game. Perhaps the most interesting part is how instructions are necessary to utilize the code. One has to wonder if its applicable Pikmin 3 or perhaps elsewhere in the Wii U's ecosystem.
Furthermore, Miyamoto has always enjoyed a healthy relationship with his fans, but this is perhaps the most direct contact in the context of a game yet. One has to also wonder if this is the start of a trend. Perhaps Eiji Aonuma, the current producer of the Legend of Zelda, will give players special missions when Wind Waker HD arrives?
