Mean Things Are Said In ‘Sonic Lost World’

With each new installment of Sonic the Hedgehog, there are certain things that are a given. And the same goes for the upcoming Sonic Lost Word.

Sure there’s that brand new, Mario Galaxy-esque view of the action, but you still have Sonic running around super fast, Dr Eggman causing trouble, plus a cast of saccharine (and potentially annoying) animal pals that the blue blur must save.

But it’s just been discovered that something else is going to be decidedly different: what the ESRB described as “aggressive language”.

The finding was first posted on NeoGAF, and later republished on Destructoid. According to the Entertainment Software Rating Board:

During gameplay, characters sometimes use aggressive language (e.g., “You’re going home in a box,” ’I’m going to skin you alive,’ and ’I long for death’s cold embrace.’). Cutscenes also depict laser fire and explosions, as well as dialogue that references violence (e.g., “I’ll get fat from eating your black hearts,” “One second you’re contemplating genocide,” and “As long as I can still strangle a Zeti, my hands are fine.”).

Rather dark stuff. The last time maturity was infused into Sonic… that being his pal Shadow The Hedgehog, who proudly toted guns… the end result was not so hot, hence why many longtime Sonic fans are rolling their eyes. But they’re also taking it in stride; as one NeoGAFfer states:

“You know, I’d play an M-Rated game where all of Sonic’s friends get skinned.”

But then you have the other major contingency of Sonic’s fan base, that being little kids. There is little doubt that “I long for death’s cold embrace” will freak out some parent and result frantic calls to their local television stations, thus resulting in another wave of cringeworthy, yet hilarious new reports on the evils of video games.
