Aliens Actor Did Not Enjoy Working On ‘Aliens’ Video Game

Much has been said about “Aliens: Colonial Marines” already, which will no doubt top many worst 2013 lists come this December. Guess who also isn’t a fan? Michael Biehn, who played Corporal Hicks in the movie that the game is based upon.

Gearbox Software enlisted Biehn to reprise his role from the James Cameron classic, which is somewhat standard procedure whenever a TV show or film gets adapted into a playable format. Unfortunately, it was a less than pleasurable experience.

In an interview with Game Informer, Biehn noted:

“It seemed kind of passionless. I think in movies, television, and the gaming world, you get some people that are really, really passionate, and some people that are just going through the paces. They think that because they have a brand name they’re going to get a hit game or hit movie out of it. That certainly was the situation on [Aliens: Colonial Marines].”

Meanwhile, his most recent game related work, “Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon,” was the total opposite experience. Biehn describes that game’s creative director as being someone who is oozing with passion:

“He was talking to me about the game and the fact that it was an ‘80s throwback, and there would be a lot of lines that were Arnold Schwarzenegger-like, that were [Sylvester] Stallone-like, Bruce Willis, myself. Those kind of lines, that kind of vibe, and the fact that it was going to be a throwback to the ‘80s was something that I thought was interesting. But really it was his passion, man. You just can’t say no to him.”

Though one does not need to have been there, behind the scenes, to see why “Blood Dragon” ended up better than “Colonial Marines.” It’s fairly obvious which game was made by people who cared and which was made by those who couldn’t have cared less.
