Many are excited by the possibilities that the Oculus Rift VR headset contains. Though there is growing concern about what you’ll be using it with exactly. Various titles are currently being prepped to offer support; longtime favorites that should be fun to experience yet again, but with the added benefit of the device’s fully immersive capabilities.
But what about new games? Is anyone actually making something original for it? That’s what the just announced VR Jam proposes to do. It’s a joint effort between Oculus VR and IndieCade.
For those unfamiliar with the IndieCade Festival, is one of the longest running annual celebrations of independent games across the globe. Not only do they help foster indie game creation via workshops and socials, the organization also helps introduce the resulting work to the general public via exhibitions.
Aside from their own event in LA, a NY foothold was recently established, plus IndieCade has become a staple at E3 for a couple of years now.
As for their most recent effort, over $50,000 in prizes are up for grabs to anyone who can create the best “made-for-VR experiences”. Winning games shall also be featured at IndieCade Festival 2013, plus those behind them will get a chance to visit Oculus HQ and meet the people behind the tech.
For those interested, details, rules, and deadlines can be found here. Surprisingly, ”game must not make people nauseous and become ill” is not included in the rules. Something to remember.
