"Gran Turismo" is one of Sony's most important high profile franchises for the PlayStation. Yet, all things considered, other than games themselves, plus various bite sized, downloadable editions, there hasn't been much else.
You'd think that at least one of its numerous rides would have made the cast of "PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale" (Sega's Daytona USA stock car was actually a character in their mascot brawler, Fighters Megamix, many moons ago), but that never happened, nor anything remotely similar.
Well, the venerable series may finally be pimped out in an ill-advised manner soon enough. Because a Gran Turismo movie is in the works. And the best part? It's being produced by the same folks behind the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey adaptation as well.
Kotaku, citing The Wrap which originally broke the story, the movie is a direct result of the current fast car craze that has taken over Hollywood. Everyone knows about Need For Speed of course, but there's also a Hot Wheels flick in development, plus the aforementioned Need For Speed adaptation.
It's also worth mentioning how there was once a Crazy Taxi motion picture in the planning stages. It obviously never came to be, like most movies based upon games. And there's a good chance that the same fate might before Gran Turismo: The Motion Picture. Will that be a good thing or a bad thing?
