Gearbox Announce ‘Headhunter’ Packs and Raised Level Cap for ‘Borderlands 2′

by Joseph Leray

After teasing earlier this month that more “Borderlands 2″ content was in the works, developer Gearbox Software announced two new add-on packs during a panel last weekend at PAX Australia that will raise the level cap in introduce new raid bosses and quests.

The level cap increase will come by way of the “Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2: Digistruct Peak Challenge,” a Patricia Tannis-hosted Circle of Slaughter that will go on sale before the end of October, according to reporting by IGN. Like the previous “Ultimate Vault Hunter” update, Digistruct Peak will increase the level cap by 11 (for a grand total of 72) and sell for $5.00.

The update will also feature additional backpack, ammo, and armory capacity. Gearbox released a similar update already this year.

Gearbox also announced that multiple “Headhunter” packs are in the pipeline, offering new missions and themed boss fights. The first is called “T.K. Baha’s Bloody Harvest,” which sets the stage for a dust-up agains Jacques O’Lantern, a pumpkin-head boss that drops new heads and skins as a reward.

Pandora devotées know that T.K. met his untimely end after being lynched by bandits in “Borderlands 1.” He was reanimated as a zombie in that game’s first DLC (which, incidentally, also includes a Jack-o’-lantern-themed sub-boss), and was last seen munching on brains.

There are multiple “Headhunter” packs in the works, though pricing and release dates haven’t been announced yet. One last detail: “Digistruct Peak Challenge” and “T.K. Baha’s Bloody Harvest” are not included in “Borderland 2″’s Season Pass, which wrapped up earlier this month with “Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon’s Keep.”

Since its launch last September, “Borderlands 2″ has seen the addition of two new characters, four different story arcs, a new mode, and dozens of new weapons. I’ve since been cured of the “Borderlands 2″ bug — though it might be time to finally bring my Zer0 up to level 50 — but I can’t think of many other games for which post-launch content has been so regular or so successful.
