You've probably heard a little something called Animal Crossing: New Leaf. The latest installment of the franchise that presents soul crushing debut in the cutest manner possible has been a stellar success on the 3DS, with Nintendo proudly flaunting strong sales numbers.
According their press release on the matter, over 505,000 copies have been sold since its debut, both in physical form and via the Nintendo eShop, around 20 percent in the latter case.
They also state:
"Nintendo's internal trackers show that sales of the game continue to be strong in July as well, indicating that Animal Crossing: New Leaf is poised to be one of the biggest games of the summer."
Nintendo also sold nearly 225,000 3DSs in June and was the best-selling video game system in the U.S. for the second month running. Nintendo attributes the healthy numbers to not just Animal Crossing: new Leaf, but Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D.
So, why the heck is New Leaf so popular? The reasons are numerous; high on the list is how it features the highest degree of customization yet, plus the baked-in social elements are work this time (which sadly wasn't the case in the previous DS and Wii versions).
Plus, owing an arm and a leg to Tom Nook isn't so bad this time around, if you know what you're doing. It's all about getting those bugs at the island at night. Cash money. Dolla dolla bill y'all.
