'Dark Souls 2' Can Drop You Off In The Middle Of The Action, If You Can Handle It


In recent months, the developers of the upcoming "Dark Souls 2" have gone on record time and time again to assure fans of the first game know that the sequel will not be a cakewalk. The concern stems from statement made not long ago by the game's new directors, Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimura, who promised a more accessible experience.

Many then assumed the worst, which was a game that would be on the easy side. Not so, states Tanimura, again for what seems like the hundredth time.

In yet another recent interview, this time with Digital Spy, he details one way in which the latest Dark Souls will be decidedly more challenging than ever before. Which ties into his desire to offer an enhanced level of exploration, "even more so than Dark Souls 1."

When discussing the fact that, to get from point A to B, one had to accomplish certain tasks in a certain order…

"In 'Dark Souls 2,' we're hoping we can provide more freedom so things don't have to necessarily be done in a certain order… We're hoping that if the player tries hard enough, or are willing enough, they could even start halfway through the game, depending on how willing or how brave they are."

No word yet on that would work exactly, but it seems like the perfect treat for those who love to run head first into ridiculous odds in Dark Souls 1. And hopefully now everyone who was still worried can finally relax about "Dark Souls 2"'s difficultly level, or any perceived lack thereof.

Then again, one has to wonder if this latest feature, to make the game even tougher as nails, is a direct response to outcry, even if it was unwarranted? Maybe all that unnecessary panic actually worked about in the end, somewhat.
