'Kingdom Hearts' Creator Wants To Tap Into Star Wars And Marvel Comics Someday

The upfront appeal of "Kingdom Hearts" is fairly obvious; you've got a bunch of Final Fantasy-esque characters running around with Disney characters. Each new installment offers the chance to interact with the personalities from yet another classic Disney animated feature. Though Kingdom Hearts 2 demonstrated that anything related to Disney was up for grabs, including live action content, as was the case with the Tron and Pirates of the Caribbean levels.

So given Disney's recent acquisition of the Star Wars license, along with their highly successful string of Marvel Comics movies, how does Luke Skywalker and Iron Man fighting alongside Sora and the rest of gang sound? Turns out, it's definitely something Kingdom Hearts creator Tetsuya Nomura would like as well.

In an interview conducted at Japan Expo in Paris by Finaland that VG247 recently highlighted, Nomura is apparently totally into the idea. But not surprisingly, it's also much easier said than done:

“But there are lots of rules and restrictions by Disney so we can’t actually put in everything people want. So it’s a quite difficult decision but we’re gonna prepare some surprises for you so, just wait for the information.”

According to VG247 once again, it would appear that the prospect of getting his hands on Star Wars is what Nomura wants the most, along with Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase (in addition to Kingdom Hears, Kitase has in hands in most of the Final Fantasies produced these days):

“We’ve been talking about Star Wars itself since it became Disney’s content recently. When I heard the news I was like 'Wow ! Wow !' Yeah obviously it’s gonna be great if we could add it, but like I said there are a lot of restrictions and rules by Disney so we don’t know what’s gonna happen but yeah, we’ll see.”

It's not such a shocker to hear that red tape will make such a heady concoction a difficult task to orchestrate. But it would appear that some progress has been made already, or an impasse is expected, since Nomura did state that we should get ready for "some surprises".

Disney has made it clear that Star Wars will be their newest cash cow, one that they fully intend to milk for everything it's worth, so the idea of Star Wars being present in the Kingdom Hearts universe is not such a wild idea after all.

Though we'll all have to see if it's the Stars Wars that most adults know and love (Episodes 4-6), the Star Wars that is mostly a hit with the kids (Episodes 1-3), or the Star Wars that Disney themselves are prepping (Episodes 7-9).
