In addition to revealing “Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games,” Nintendo and Sega announced a “worldwide partnership” on Sonic the Hedgehog games this morning, with the first title – “Sonic Lost World” – coming exclusively to Wii U and 3DS.
“The onetime rivalry between Mario and Sonic has grown into a friendship that has never been closer,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “These announcements in conjunction with SEGA demonstrate the commitment we have to bringing great games to the Wii U platform, and set the stage for our upcoming announcements at E3.”
Details on “Sonic Lost World” are slim for now, but the title is being described as an action-adventure platforming game. Nintendo says they will have more information to share with eager gamers as we approach E3 2013 in June.
As for the new Mario and Sonic Olympic Games, Nintendo revealed that skiing, snowboarding, bobsled, curling and all of the winter sports you’d expect will be showing up. There will even be a biathalon event that mixes rifle shooting and skiing, and challenges players to switch between standard Wii Remote controls and the Wii U GamePad. Unfortunately, launch details weren’t provided, but Nintendo says we’ll learn more soon.
