Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime made a last-minute appearance during this morning’s Nintendo Direct to tell fans about a brand new entry in the Legend of Zelda franchise heading to the 3DS this holiday season. Though this is a completely new game from the ground up, it just so happens to be set in the same world fans were introduced to in the beloved 1992 SNES game, “The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.”
22 years after the original Link to the Past took fans by storm on Super NES, link is returning in a brand new top-down adventure that will “reinvigorate” the 2D world. The game’s 3D style looks great from what we’ve seen so far, and the game will feature an original storyline along with all-new dungeons to explore.
One of the more interesting features Nintendo showed off today was Link’s ability to turn into a drawing. By becoming a sketch on the wall, Link will be able to navigate areas in a whole new way, and reach places he was never able to before.
The 3D capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS also add a new angle to the game, with the height of objects sometime playing an important role in puzzle solving. Fans can get a good look at how the 3D will work by checking out a 3D video for the game now available in the eShop on 3DS.
