‘Mario Golf: World Tour’ Goes Global With Online Multiplayer

Nintendo revealed today that the upcoming “Mario Golf: World Tour” is taking the “world tour’ thing pretty seriously. In addition to playing local multiplayer with friends over Wi-Fi on the 3DS, players will also be able to compete with Mario golfers around the world, in real-time online matches.

The game will feature an online community similar to what was seen in “Mario Kart 7″ for the 3DS. Players will be able to set special conditions for online matches, creating games that follow traditional golf rules (no power-ups), take place on short courses, or restrict players to only using Luigi in a tournament, for instance.

Nintendo still hasn’t revealed a specific release date for “Mario Golf: World Tour” but Satoru Iwata said fans of the series should expect to see it this summer.
