Free-to-Play 'Ridge Racer Driftopia' Heads To PC, PS3 Later This Year

Namco Bandai Games today announced a new downloadable entry in the long-running Ridge Racer franchise. Headed to Windows PC and PlayStation 3 later this year, "Ridge Racer Driftopia" will be the first free-to-play game in the racing series.

"At NAMCO BANDAI Games we are committed to embracing new business models alongside the still vital traditional retail sector," said Olivier Comte, Senior Vice President, Namco Bandai Games Europe. "Free-to-play is playing an increasingly important role, so it’s very exciting to be bringing one of our most successful franchises to the free-to-play space for everyone to enjoy."

With a name like "Driftopia" its easy to assume the game will involve a bit a drfting, and the trailer above features just that. Considering the game's free-to-play, there's bound to be microtransactions. Let's just hope we'll be able to do more playing than spending.

Namco says more details on "Ridge Racer Driftopia" will be announced soon.
