Next Up For Telltale: This Summer's Episodic 'Fables' Game 'The Wolf Among Us'

"The Walking Dead" developer heads back to comics, this time adapting Bill Willingham's long-running "Fables" with a prequel detective tale featuring that book's surly wolf, Bigby.

Set before the events of the first issue of "Fables," "The Wolf Among Us" centers on the fairy tale community living in secret in the middle of Manhattan and Bigby Wolf, the sheriff who keeps order. Formerly the Big Bad Wolf, Bigby evolved over the years in Willingham's comics as one of the most multi-facted, a detective, a fighter, and a loving father in a war against the despotically ruled fairy tale kingdoms.

The first arc of the Vertigo/DC Comic series was a murder mystery Bigby in the lead, and it would be odd to not see Telltale put the Fabletown sheriff in the detective role again for this XBLA, PSN, Mac, and PC release. I kind of wish it was set a little further in the run, when the full scope of the war laid out multiple threads of espionage, betrayal, and kingdom-hopping.

From the official synopsis:

Set prior to the events seen in the first issue of the FABLES comic book series, The Wolf Among Us puts players in the role of Bigby Wolf, a man once more infamously known as The Big Bad Wolf. Now the sheriff of a hidden community in New York City, exiled from the land of fairy tales, Bigby is tasked by the bureaucrat Snow White to keep order within a society of mythical creatures and characters trying to remain undetected in the world of the mundane. From a chain-smoking member of 'The Three Little Pigs,' to a car-stealing Mr. Toad itching for his next wild ride, The Wolf Among Us examines the lives of beings straight from the pages of myth and lore, now trying to survive on the meanest and most run-down streets of New York City.
