Rooster Teeth's Anime-inspired Series 'RWBY' Gets A Trailer

"Ruby?" Is it pronounced "Rewby," maybe? The latest web series from Rooster Teeth, directed and co-written by their lead animator Monty Oum, is like a flashback to 2007. Check out the trailer for the cel-shaded action anime "RWBY."

Featuring character designs seemingly inspired in part by Tite Kubo's work on "Bleach" with an animation style that recalls--among other things--the Cyberconnect2 "Naruto Shippuden" games, this third trailer makes for a fun game of "pick out the influences" even if I'm not quite sure what it's actually about (beyond the frenetic hero-on-mech violence). No, Kubo, seems wrong, but it's definitely locked in that mid-decade set of influences in character design and costumes.

This trailer, titled "Black" is the second behind the previously-released "White" trailer and the main "RWBY" trailer certainly make the series seem striking in a certain way with its stark red/black/white color scheme, but for the moment, I'm at a loss to tell you what it's about or how it's any different from the flood of action-heavy content-light titles coming out of Japan right now.

Still, neat fights, though.
