Diving for treasure, lush, verdant jungles, and buildings–tall buildings from which to leap and bound! “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag” is starting to look a lot like an “Assassin’s Creed” game with pirates.
In this case, that’s a good thing with the series in need of a slight return to the fundamentals after the mechanics-heavy and ultimately unfocused “Assassin’s Creed III.” The new gameplay trailer hints at more tomb exploration as well as the high seas combat many of you loved from “AC3″ (frankly, I thought it was a little rough around the edges, but your mileage, as always, may vary).
I’m surprised by how green the game is–lush, even–the first game in the series to be able to take advantage of a tropical environment (very different from the forests, hills, and cliffs of the Northeastern United States). The change in settings should open up the sequel to some interesting traversal and hiding options while the use of the Spanish-influenced cities of the Caribbean will hopefully offer a more fluid traversal experience than the spread out cities of “AC3.”
The Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U versions of “Assassin’s Creed IV” will be available on October 29 with the PC and PS4 versions to follow sometime later.
