“Gears of War” comes to an end, while TT Games opens up an entire city to LEGO mayhem. Also: George Washington continues to be tyrannical over in “Assassin’s Creed 3,” but you might not care since you’ll be sinking all of your time in the new “Monster Hunter” remake/port for the Wii U and 3DS.

It’s all about the Unreal Engine 4 for Epic right now, making this final “Gears of War” entry something of a last hurrah for the studio’s work on the 360. “Gears” and Microsoft’s console’s fate were so closely tied together, Epic using the platform as a showcase for its graphics engine while MS used the third-person shooter for pretty much the same reason.
This prequel, developed by “Bulletstorm” developer “People Can Fly,” is an odd finale to the series, particularly in how it addresses any lingering narrative threads with its split timeline, but there are people who really like musclebound bullet sponges Baird and Cole so this is their chance to experience those guys’ story.
Title: “LEGO: City Undercover”

LEGO-meets-“GTA” may seem like an odd formula until you realize that after “LEGO Batman 2,” TT Games has has already effectively made that game. This time around, it’s simply without the superhero trappings and keeping players on the right side of the law (except for the undercover parts where they’re on the wrong side of the law, but whatever).
It’s also another step in this new direction the developer is taking with increasingly big budget, talky games, moving them further away from the quirkiness of some of the earlier, dialog-free LEGO licensed titles. While the voice acting has been top-notch in “LEGO Batman 2” and “LOTR,” I can’t help but miss the expressiveness of the voiceless characters from something like “LEGO Indiana Jones.” But that could just be me.

This is the second part of the “Tyranny of George Washington” DLC for “Assassin’s Creed 3” and I really need to get my hands on the first part (and later, the last) since apparently I can only get my kicks in that universe anymore via alternate universe historical fiction.
