'Skyrim' Steam Update Removes Level Cap

In a blog post this morning, Bethesda detailed some of the changes coming to "Skyrim" with the 1.9 update for the PC version of the game. Besides resolving an assortment of bugs, Update 1.9 will add Legendary Skills, allowing players to effectively rank all the way past 100 with any ability in the game.

Per Bethesda: "Skills of 100 can be made Legendary. This will reset the skill to 15, return its Perks and allow the skill to affect leveling again. This effectively removes the overall level cap." This update would in essence make your "Skyrim" character a brawling god(dess) post-level 100, and once difficulty's out of the way, the land of the North should be ripe for pillaging. Great, they've now given Clint a reason to never stop playing.

Keep in mind, this update is a beta, so you'll have to opt in (right-click on "Skyrim" in your Steam library and select Properties, Beta, the select Opt In) and Bethesda recommends backing up your old saved games in case everything goes horribly, horribly wrong.

If all goes well, Bethesda wants to bring the update to PS3 and Xbox 360 later this month.
