Describing the upcoming "Mew-Genics" as the most complex title they've worked on today, the boys at Team Meat finally laid out some vision stuff for their upcoming game which they see as a mix between "The Sims," "Pokemon," "Tamagotchi" and "Animal Crossing."
So basically, according to their latest blog post, you'll be managing cats.
Mew-Genics revolves around Cats, obviously. We knew tending to these cats in a simulated "cat lady" environment would be the foundation of our design, but the core of what we are trying to do is make a game that feels alive, a game that creates stories as you play where consequences actually mean something...
That's Edmund McMillen elaborating on some of the goals of "Mew-Genics," which is still in beta. By way of further explanation, McMillen wrote story--consider it an experience piece--outlining some time spent with his own game, pulling Puddles the cat out of cryo in order to mate with the dim-witted Champ, who in turn, associated Puddle's repeated assaults with feeding time, leading him to stop eating altogether and die after being placed in the attic. But all was not lost:
It wasn't long after though that I caught sight of a solid black stray cat named Goon, before he had a chance to run I grabbed him and pulled him inside. Goon was a much better fit for Puddle and before I knew it the humping started and puddle was pregnant!
From there, it's a story of narcoleptic felines, and runaway strays, and you kind of get a sense of the shape that Team Meat is cooking up. What I'm able to pick apart from that user-generated narrative is that you'll be placing kitties together and managing them based on their traits and relationships all in the hopes of breeding them... for some kind of uber cat, maybe?
