PSN Purchases Will Not Carry Over To PlayStation 4

Sony admitted last night that PlayStation 4 would not be backward compatible with PS3 game discs, and this morning the company has come forward with more bad news – current-generation PSN purchases will not carry over to PlayStation 4.

According to Engadget, the news was just recently confirmed by Sony Worldwide Studios head honcho Shuhei Yoshida. While Sony mentioned plans last night to work around the lack of backward compatibility, through the use of Gaikai's cloud gaming technology (eventually), the same cannot be said for current PSN purchases.

If Microsoft wants to win the upcoming console war, the ability to transfer current Xbox Live Arcade games and similar digital content to their supposed next-gen console would be good place to start. What do you think?
