Activision Confirms Another ‘Call of Duty’ For 2013

Surprise! Activision recently confirmed that another Call of Duty game is scheduled for 2013. However, the publisher doesn’t expect the new entry in the franchise to perform as well as “Call of Duty: Black Ops II.”

According to Gamespot, the news comes from a recent post-earnings call, where Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said, “The Call of Duty franchise continues to set the bar for innovation and we expect the new Call of Duty game in development for 2013 to raise that bar even higher.”

“There is increased volatility this year due to the ongoing console transition, which makes predicting the future more challenging than during normal years in the cycle. For Call of Duty, consistent with our past practices, we are planning for the mainline release in Q4 to be down versus 2012,” Activision CFO Dennis Durkin added.

Details on the new entry in the FPS franchise are slim, but we expect the game will follow the traditional Call of Duty release schedule, launching somewhere in the October-December timeframe. Interestingly, there have been rumors that Microsoft and Sony’s new consoles will launch somewhere around the same time. Could this possibly be the first next-gen Call of Duty? Only time will tell.
