OUYA's Controller Is Getting Some Upgrades

OUYA could change the console gaming landscape in a big way, but what's a console without the great controller to go along with it? To make sure everyone is pleased with the final result, the OUYA team has taken their controller back to the drawing board in a sense, tweaking and adjusting based on developer feedback.

From OUYA:

"Since the release of the OUYA Dev Console last month, developers around the world have sent us a ton of emails, comments, videos and forum posts… all about our controller. A lot of the feedback underscored things we were already changing, some comments were totally new, but ALL were great to hear."

One of the best changes (in my opinion) is the d-pad. The disc shape of d-pad on Microsoft's Xbox 360 controller has long been a complaint among gamers, and OUYA's original controller had one very similar. Thankfully, the disc has now been changed to a more user-friendly cross.

The thumbsticks on the OUYA controller have also been tweaked a bit. Apparently, developers were having a hard time keeping a grip on the sticks, so the team has added rubberized tops to keep thumbs planted firmly where they belong. They're still convex rather than concave, but I guess it's something we can live with.

In addition to changing the d-pad and thumbsticks, the OUYA controller has also received a more responsive touchpad, redesigned triggers that sit more flush with the controller, and a more secure battery pack.
