Many Wii U owners (myself included) have quickly become frustrated by the time it takes to load games and move between menus on Nintendo’s new console. Thankfully, Nintendo is well aware of just how annoyed we are, and they’re saying two newly announced system updates will fix the problem.
The first update will come in Spring, bringing with it the Wii U Virtual Console and faster load time for games and other software. The second system update will land this Summer, and Nintendo says it will decrease the time it takes to return to the Wii U home screen when leaving a game or application.
“We recognize the time it takes to launch software and to return to the menu screen is one of the biggest issues on Wii U,” said Nintendo president Satoru Iwata during today’s Nintendo Direct. “We are going to improve it incrementally, in two stages, with these updates.”
It’s a shame that we’ll have to wait for two separate updates to help solve the issue, but it’s great to see Nintendo addressing our concerns head-on, rather than keeping us in the dark as to whether or not improvements are coming. Let’s just hope the improvements are significant enough to make a real difference in the overall Wii U experience.
