'Angry Birds Star Wars' Lands On Facebook With New Features

As several other "Angry Birds" titles have already flapped their wings over to the social network, I suppose it was only a matter of time before "Angry Birds Star Wars" showed up on Facebook. Rovio recently announced the game's browser-based availability, and the social version brings some interesting new features with it.

"It’s all the fun of Angry Birds Star Wars taken to the next level," said Petri Järvilehto, EVP of Games at Rovio. "You get the great Angry Birds Star Wars gameplay for free, plus you can compete against your friends to see who is the ultimate bird-flinger and Jedi Master."

The game will receive five new stages every week, allowing players to constantly compete with eachother to determine who has the most advanced Jedi bird slinging skills. Competing with friends also offers the opportunity to earn in-game rewards.

On top of that, new power-ups and abilities have been added exclusively to the Facebook version of the game. Players will be able to use a Thermal Detonator to plant surprise explosives, the Blaster Droid for laser destruction, and Lightsaber Sling for super flinging. In addition, players will be able to create Clone Birds -- a duplicate of your bird of choice -- to provide some extra backup on tricky stages.

"Angry Birds Star Wars on Facebook is another great example of a top mobile developer building social games for Facebook.com," said Julien Codorniou, head of EMEA Game Partnerships, Facebook. "Rovio's games connect people with their friends around the world through high quality gameplay, immersive graphics and engaging social elements, and we’re excited to see them bring their latest game to Facebook."

Rovio says even more additional content for "Angry Birds Star Wars" on Facebook is coming, so we'll be sure to keep you updated. In the meantime check out the quick trailer below!
