Capcom Announces Digital Releases Of The First Six ‘Mega Man’ Games

Capcom’s celebration of the 25th anniversary of “Mega Man” is going down now–not only is the fan-made “Street Fighter X Mega Man” live now on Capcom-Unity, (whose servers are getting slammed right now), but starting December 27th, the first 8-bit adventure of “Mega Man” will be available on the 3DS eShop.

The release of the first game is part of a staggered release strategy for the first six games in the series, representing the first six years of the characters’ 8-bit adventures. We can expect to see regular announcements over the next few months about subsequent titles in the series. Personally, I’m looking forward to 2, a favorite in the series (and if I recall, the first one I played as a late adopter of the NES).

The Capcom press release didn’t include pricing details for “Mega Man,” but we’ve reached out to their PR team for more info.

These digital releases are likely, of course, part of a broader celebration of the series’ anniversary. Here’s hoping that besides re-releases of classics–and I imagine at some point the X series of games will be represented–we might here something about new “Mega Man” titles in the coming year.
