Though minor layoffs hit the outfit earlier this year, Microsoft’s Vancouver studio is apparently alive and well. In fact, the studio has just been relaunched as Black Tusk, and the team has been tasked with creating Microsoft’s “next big franchise.”
Currently, Black Tusk Studios only has 55 employees, but the studio is actively seeking talented individuals with hopes to double that number by the end of the year. The core of the existing team, which includes studio manager and former EA employee Mike Crump, already have an average of 12 years experience working on AAA titles.
“We are working on Microsoft’s next big entertainment franchise,” Crump told The Vancouver Sun. “We’re not working on an existing franchise; we’re looking to build the next Halo here in Vancouver, for example, which is really exciting. We are building something from the ground up.”
Many studios dream of creating the next mega-franchise, but it’s not an easy task. Thankfully, the Black Tusk Studios staff have an average of 12 years experience with big budget titles, something that is sure to prove useful as development continues.
