Nintendo Teases Upcoming Mario and Zelda Games For Wii U

After seeing the hi-def Zelda tech demo way back when the Wii U was first made official, we we're pretty confident a full-blown HD Zelda game was on the way. Now, Nintendo recently teased that new 3D Zelda and Mario games are in development for the new console.

In a recent interview, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said the titles would be announced at a later date.

"We will announce the launch schedules for new 3D Zelda and Mario games in the future, but this is not the right opportunity for me to indicate when we will make such announcements," Iwata told IGN during a recent interview.

Obviously, new Zelda and Mario games would be great for the Wii U, but Iwata admits that first-party games alone will not be enough to make the new console successful.

"Our first-party software alone can’t be enough to appeal to the different tastes of all game fans," he said. "The decision of Nintendo that it will publish the two software titles from Platinum Games is one answer to this challenge."

Nintendo seems to be doing everything they can to ensure Wii U has great games from both their own developers and third-party devs alike. The question now is whether or not their efforts will pay off. Personally, I have faith in their determination, but we want to know what you think. Sound off in the comments below.
