Nintendo Offering Free NES, SNES Levels For 'New Super Mario Bros. 2'

Mario fans worldwide have gathered a shimmering mountain of more than 300 billion gold coins in "New Super Mario Bros. 2" for 3DS, Nintendo announced today. To reward players for all of their hard work and dedication, Nintendo is offering a free pack of Coin Rush courses that longtime Mario fans are sure to recognize.

Pulling inspiration from legendary Mario games like "Super Mario Bros." For NES and "Super Mario Bros. 3" for SNES, the Gold Classics Pack includes three new courses that can be played in the game's Coin Rush mode. Players will be able to test their skills while challenging other gamers to beat their high scores using StreetPass. The pack is absolutely free for NSMB.2 owners until February 1st, 2013. After that, the Gold Classics Pack will set you back a reasonable $2.50.

"Nintendo fans have once again demonstrated their passion for the Super Mario Bros. franchise," said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "The Gold Classics Pack is just one small way for us to thank players for their dedication. We're all eager to see just how high that coin tally can get."
