Navy SEALs Revealed Classified Information While Consulting On 'Medal of Honor: Warfighter'

Uh oh! Looks like seven members of an elite Navy SEALs team are being punished for information they shared with EA while consulting on "Medal of Honor: Warfighter". Turns out the soldiers, one of whom was a member of the team that helped put Osama Bin Laden down, shared classified information during the game's production.

According to Reuters, an anonymous U.S. official has confirmed the details and another defense official, who will also requested anonymity, says members of the team are still under investigation in connection with EA's latest big-budget first-person shooter.

All of the men were punished (docked half pay for two months) during an administrative proceeding for not only sharing information, but also misusing command gear while working with the game's development team. EA has been pushing "Medal of Honor: Warfighter" as an "authentic experience" thanks to the input they received from active military personnel. At least we know they weren't kidding!

The U.S. Department of Defense issued the following statement to Polygon:

A non-judicial punishment hearing was conducted yesterday, Nov. 7 and seven Naval Special Warfare (NSW) personnel faced administrative proceedings. An additional NSW investigation is ongoing to determine if more personnel may be involved.

They are being charged with violation of Article 92: Orders violation, misuse of command gear and violation of Article 92: Dereliction of duty, disclosure of classified material.

Two Senior Chief Special Operators and five Chief Special Operators received the punishment. They received a punitive letter of reprimand and forfeiture of ½ month's pay for two months.
