Visceral Games wants to assure “Dead Space” fans that the second sequel in the horror/sci-fi series won’t break with the addition of co-op. In fact, they’re hoping to use it as a way of adding to the mood and horror of the series by presenting unsettling digressions via new character/Isaac’s co-op buddy John Carver.
In this video with “Dead Space 3″ story producer Chuck Beaver, we get a glimpse into Carver’s mind and his rapidly progressing dementia which will have an impact on both the story and the gameplay for the upcoming release. Some of the details from the interview: Carver and troubled hero Isaac’s first meeting is a “harsh” one and that Carver has a connection to both the mysterious markers as well as the villain of the current installment.
Also, over at the PlayStation Blog, the game’s producer Steve Papoutsis makes the case for the new co-op mode and reacting to fan’s disappointment to the competitive multiplayer added to “Dead Space 2.” Here’s what he had to say about the addition of Carver to the current story:
And we needed to create a character that fit into the universe and didn’t feel like a throw-away character. We first announced John Carver through a graphic novel, so he has his own unique personality and backstory. So when you get into the game he actually brings value to what’s going on. You learn about him and his own personal demons. That’s very different, and we feel it’s very innovative.
“Dead Space 3″ will be available on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC February 5th.
