NYCC 2012: Dark Horse Unveils New 'Dragon Age' Comic Series and Encyclopedia

Dark Horse comics continues to expand its slate of video game tie ins with two major Dragon Age releases for 2013: the new miniseries Dragon Age: Until We Sleep and the first volume of their art book/encyclopedia Dragon Age: The World of Thedas. Find out more about these New York Comic-Con announcements after the jump.

First, on March 27th, the publisher will follow up this year's miniseries Those Who Speak with Until We Sleep from writer David Gaider and artist Chad Hardin, based on scripts by Alexander Freed (I'm assuming Gaider has something like a "story by" credit here). The story returns to Dragon Age: Origins hero, King Alistair as he forges a series of alliances with some of the most dangerous people in the kingdom to help him find the evil mage responsible for his father's disappearance.

From the publisher:

King Alistair, allied with the world’s most feared warrior race—the Qunari—the pirate Isabela, and the rogue Varric, brings a battle royal to the evil mage responsible for his father’s disappearance!

A week after the first issue of Until We Sleep ships, Dark Horse will release the first volume of their planned encyclopedia, Dragon Age: The World of Thedas. Coming out on April 3, 2013, here's how the publisher describes the release:

Invitingly designed and illustrated with hundreds of pieces of lush art from the creators of the games, this is the definitive guide to BioWare’s dark fantasy masterpiece!

For Dragon Age newcomers, this comprehensive volume brings you up to speed on everything you need to know about Dragon Age’s regions, religions, monsters, magic, and more!

For dedicated fans, never before have the secrets of BioWare’s epic fantasy been revealed so completely and so compellingly. The World of Thedas Volume 1 is filled to the brim with never-before-seen art by the creators of the games!

This dramatic, accessible, beautiful tome illuminates the world from the darkest corners of the Deep Roads to the most illusory reaches of the Fade, taking readers on a journey through one of the most fully realized fantasy universes of our time!
