NYCC 2012: Dark Horse Comics Unveils Comic Based on Naughty Dog's 'The Last of Us'

Dark Horse Comics and the team behind Uncharted announced the 2013 comic series The Last of Us: American Dreams and an art book based on the upcoming survival horror game during New York Comic Con.

The series follows The Last of Us heroine Ellie in the ruins of the postpandemic world, serving as a prequel to the game. Here's how the publisher is describing the story:

Ellie, the heroine of The Last of Us, has grown up in a postpandemic world, shuttled between military orphanages in one of the last remaining quarantine zones and resigned to the fact that when she’s old enough, she’ll be channeled into the army or left to fend for herself—until she meets an older girl determined to find a third way out. American Dreams explores Ellie’s backstory and her first steps on the road that led her to her companion Joel.

The Last of Us writer Neil Druckmann is joined by Zombies Calling artist Faith Erin Hicks for the series, which makes its debut sometime next spring.

Additionally, Dark Horse and Naughty Dog have a hardcover art book planned in conjunction with the release of the game entitled The Art of The Last of Us. The PS3 title will be available sometime early next year.
