One of the masterminds behind Gears is out at Epic after 20 years with the company.
This was really unexpected, but Epic’s design director Cliff Bleszinski is stepping down after two decades, according to the Epic Games website.
He’s had his hand in everything from Jazz Jackrabbit and Unreal, and has been the public, chainsaw bayonet-wielding face of Gears since the series’ debut.
Some comments from his letter to the Epic Games staff on his departure:
I’ve been doing this since I was a teenager, and outside of my sabbatical last year, I have been going non-stop. I literally grew up in this business, as Mike likes to say. And now that I’m grown up, it’s time for a much needed break.
Bleszinski hasn’t gone on record on either his blog or via his Twitter account about what he’s got coming up next, but here’s wishing him success in whatever his next gig might be.
