Sora and Riku in HD: Square Enix Announces ‘Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix’ For the PS3

Cue fan outrage at the lack of a Final Fantasy VII HD release in 3… 2… 1:

Square Enix has revealed via Famitsu that three games from the Kingdom Hearts series are getting a bit of HD polish in 2013. Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix will include prettied-up versions of Kingdom Hearts Final Mix HD, Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories HD, and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, bringing the PS2 and GBA/DS games to the next gen. Curiously, 2005’s Kingdom Hearts 2 didn’t make the cut–a curious omission in what seems like a fairly comprehensive accounting for the whole series (likewise, the two mobile games and the recently released Dream Drop Distance aren’t joining the lineup).

The Japanese release is coming to the PS3, keeping the Kingdom Hearts series away from Microsoft’s console for that much longer.

While the announcement didn’t mention a U.S. release, we can probably assume it’ll be hitting the States sometime in the not-too-distant future.
