Wikipad Gaming Tablet Coming To GameStop In October!

Over the course of the year, the Wikipad has gone from a small, no-name Android 4.0 tablet, boasting an optional game controller and glasses-free 3D, to full-fledged gaming device with support from NVIDIA and Sony. Now, updated to Android 4.1 with the controller coming standard, GameStop is apparently going to offer the slate at brick-and-mortar stores for $499.

Today, Wikipad announced pre-order options for the gaming tablet and finally revealed the unit's final design – a 10.1 inch tablet with a 1280 x 800 IPS LCD screen and an included gaming controller. At only 8.6mm thick we're not really sure how they figured out how to cram a 1.42GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor in there, but we're not going to complain. The Wikipad is also setup with 1 GB of RAM and comes in 16GB and 32GB storage capacities, both of which sport a microSD card for further expansion.

What's most important is the games selection and it looks like Wikipad has that area covered. Even better, it will be more than just the usual bunch of games found on everyday Android devices. GameStop has said they'll be offering exclusive "full-length game titles" with the tablet. On top of that, the retailer is apparently chatting up traditional game publishers to bring more entertainment to the device, though no specifics have been revealed. Surprisingly, the Wikipad will also be among the first non-Sony devices that are Playstation Certified, meaning PlayStation Mobile titles will also be available eventually. The tablet is also optimized for Sony's new cloud gaming service, Gaikai, adding yet another source for gaming titles.

Pre-orders begin tomorrow and the tablet will hit GameStop shelves (and possibly others) on October 31st. While the $499 price tag may seem a little steep compared other tablets focused on gaming, the actual games selection is what matters and Wikipad is off to good start so far.
