Mystery Site Hinting at ‘World Ends With You’ Sequel?

The countdown image above appeared over the weekend on a Square Enix site teasing the next project from Tetsuya Nomura and Gen Kobayashi. According to this Andriasang post, the page references the term Subaseka, which could point to The World Ends With You, whose Japanese title was Subarashiki Kono Sekai.

The World Ends With You protagonist Neku and other characters from the game recently made an appearance in Kingdom Hearts 3D, causing me to think that maybe Square hadn’t forgotten the ’07 DS game. In that Shibuya-based title, Neku and several other teens are forced to participate in street battles with supernatural creatures tied to a clock embedded in their wrists. They all learned a little something about friendship and loyalty and such (it’s actually really, really good mechanically, but some of the storytelling is very youth-oriented and a little mopey a times).
