The newest trailer out of Japan shows young Dante reshaping the floating, surreal, demon-infested environment while They Live-style subliminal messages demand that you OBEY!
You might remember that the story in the Ninja Theory-developed reboot is that Dante dealing with a world shifting in and out of demon-controlled reality. Those same demons are using subliminal messaging to keep our hero under control.
Besides getting a look at one of the game’s boss characters (I think) along with Dante’s whip and swing traversal, the new trailer also shows off his slow-mo evade which borrows a little from Bayonetta’s playbook. And that’s not a bad place to grab inspiration from, given that it’s, you know, simply the best game of this type (I’ll brook no argument here). With Devil May Cry 4, the series was starting to feel a little stale (and look it too, relying on the same shiny baroque aesthetic), so I’m really looking forward to seeing how the team behind Heavenly Sword pushes the franchise into the current generation of character action games.
Devil May Cry will be available on the Xbox 360, PC, and PS3 on January 15th of next year.
