Action platforming blended with tower defense segments are the order of the day in Insomniac Games’ next foray into the Ratchet & Clank series. In a piece over on the PlayStation Blog, Production Director Shaun McCabe talked about how the Insomniac team was attracted to the mix of wide-open battlefields with hasty returns to the player’s base to set up a defensible tower.
Full Frontal Assault will have a story-based campaign with the typical R&C gampeplay and goofy weapons we all know and love interspersed with tower defense segments. When defending your tower, you can deploy turrets, mines, and barriers on pads arranged around the base which you’ll use to defend against waves of oncoming enemies. Ratchet will have to make a run out onto the battlefield to find more weapons with which to fend off the baddies.
The campaign will be both single-player and co-op.
Based on how the PlayStation Blog describes Full Frontal Assault, I could imagine a dual tower defense multiplayer mode in the vein of Monday Night Combat (an inaccurate description, I know).
Insomniac isn’t making Full Frontal Assault playable just yet, nor are they saying anything about a release date. You can check out a couple of screens below.
