'Minecraft' Passes 3 Million Sales on Xbox 360

When Minecraft was first introduced on the Xbox 360 it almost immediately dethroned Trials Evolution from the top slot, becoming profitable in a matter of hours and selling over 400,000 copies within in the first day. While things may have slowed down a bit since then, Minecraft has officially broke the 3 million sales mark.

The news comes by way of, you guessed it, Twitter. Minecraft creator Markus Persson took to the social blabber machine last week, delivering a single tweet that read, “I got told Minecraft for XBLA passed three million sales today!”

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has now broken all previous Xbox Live Arcade sales records. After reaching 1 million sales in just the first five days it was pretty obvious that this day coming. However, what really drives home the game's success for me is the amount of unique users noted on Xbox Live's activity charts. Since May 14th Minecraft has been pulling in more users than one of the most popular games ever, Call of Duty: Black Ops, only being outdone by the latest title in that franchise, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
