"Dead Island" Sequel, "Riptide" Announced

Beware the Riptide of the living dead as Dead Island gets a followup.

It looks like last year's first-person open world zombie game Dead Island is getting a sequel. Developer/publisher Deep Silver announced that along with Polish developer Techland, they'll be creating a new entry in the series for consoles and the PC.

If you'll recall, in the first one, you played as a vacationer trapped on an island beset by the flesh hungry breathing-challenged. Most of the love for the game came from the sandbox element and the wild physics that created all sorts of interesting break points when you would bash one of the walking dead in the skull.

No word on how far along the sequel is, but the site promises that more updates will follow later this summer.
