Tomb Raider Won't Resurface Until 2013

By Jeffrey Matulef

E3 2011 was pretty fantastic. We saw all these great games like Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider, leading us to believe that 2012 would be a hell of a year. Well keep on waiting, young grasshopper. We just heard about Bioshock Infinite's delay last week, and Lara is next in line as Crystal Dynamics announced their Tomb Raider reboot won't be out until the first quarter of next year.

Studio head at Crystal Dynamics, Darrell Gallagher, said on publisher, Eidos' forum, "When Crystal Dynamics first set out to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise, there were two goals that we were extremely passionate about. The first was to create a modern Tomb Raider game that would surprise and excite gamers. The second was to make this the best game of our careers, something we would be really proud to be a part of. We truly believe that we have something very special on our hands and we can’t wait to share it with you."

He later added, "Our priority now is to make sure we fully deliver the very highest quality game. In order to do this, we have decided to move the game’s release date by a few months, from Fall 2012 to the first quarter of 2013... We believe this is the right choice and I guarantee it will be worth the wait."

Community manager, Meagan Marie added, "While disappointment in having to wait a bit longer for Tomb Raider is natural, I – and the rest of the studio – firmly believe this is the right decision. I know you’ll agree when holding an exceptional experience in your hands come launch day."

We'll have more info on Tomb Raider soon as Crystal Dynamics confirmed they'll be showing off more of the game at E3 next month.

Now, who wants to place bets that both Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite will come out before The Last Guardian?
