Like an eagle diving after its prey, the latest trailer from Ubisoft’s highly praised ’Assassin’s Creed’ franchise drops in for the kill.
Finally breaking out of Europe, the assassins come stateside to mete out their justice with the Revolutionary War as its backdrop. We learned earlier that you’ll don the classic white cloak as series’ new comer, Connor. Now we get to see him in action as he glides effortlessly from forest to city settings, hacking and slashing anyone unlucky enough to get in his way.
The game looks even more fluid showing off what looks like a more refined ’parkour’ style of movement. One scenes shows Connor smoothly jumping through a window and around furniture and then back outside. Could the maps be even more open, allowing buildings to be partially explored? Good luck finding all the flags if we have a fully rendered 1800’s Boston! Really, though, I’m much more interesting in playing out my Predator fantasies, stalking and trapping hapless soldiers in the woods, bounding silently from limb to limb.
Connor, as Altiar and especially Ezio before him, fights with murderous efficiency. The addition of muskets hasn’t deterred any of the up close kills you all know and love from the last games. You’ll have a bow, hand axe, and series’ staple hidden assassin blade at your disposal as well as what looks like a host of new counterattack. The fights look stylish and brutal and I’m hoping for even more contextual fights that bring even more of the environment into play.
From the trailer’s VO it seems that Connor has more at stake than just battling the British redcoats and Templars. His native American background will more than likely pull his allegiances as the truth becomes ever more apparent. Maybe this time around you’ll have a little more choice as more and more games seem to throw in some moral dilemma, but that’s just my speculation.

The newest trailer for Assassin’s Creed III gives a deeper look at the franchise’s new hero. Trapped between two worlds, Connor dons the mantle of the Assassin in the fight for justice against the Templars. Sentinel, outsider, and champion, Connor defends the land against those who would infringe upon freedom and liberty.
Set against the backdrop of the American Revolution in the late 18th century, Assassin’s Creed III introduces a new hero, Ratonhnhaké:ton, of Native American and English heritage. Adopting the name Connor, he becomes the new voice for justice in the ancient war between the Assassins and Templars. Gamers become an Assassin in the war for liberty against ruthless tyranny in the most stylized and fluid combat experiences in the franchise to date. Assassin’s Creed III spans the Revolutionary War, taking gamers from the vibrant, untamed frontier to bustling colonial towns and the intense, chaotic battlefields where George Washington’s Continental Army clashed with the imposing British Army.
I’ll admit that after the last few installments I was kind of burned out on the AC series; but with a fresh coat of colonial paint and more importantly (at least for me) an all new character this will be a game to keep your eye on.
