The mysterious PS Vita fantasy action title announced the other day, Soul Sacrifice, has been revealed to be headed by Mega Man creator, Keiji Inafune. In addition to the Blue Bomber, Inafune has more recently worked on such series as Dead Rising, Lost Planet, and Harvest Moon.
According to a recent issue of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu (translated by Andriasang) Soul Sacrifice will cast you in the role of a slave who
serves a wicked sorcerer. The game will support up to four players.
Intriguingly, you’ll conduct gruesome magic attacks by mutilating parts of your body. “Excalibur” has you pulling your spinal cord out through your throat and using it as a sword, “Gleipnir” involves lopping off your fingers and punching with the exposed knuckles, “Gorgon” has you plopping out your eyeballs to emit a magic beam, and “Gungir” attacks via your bones and nerves emerging from your body.
The title comes from the fact that such self-mutilating spells cause your character to lose their humanity, so it’s not just a physical sacrifice.
So far the game is about 50% complete and aiming for a winter release in Japan. In the meantime, check out its grisly new trailer.
