Third Playable Character and More Revealed At 'Resident Evil' Anniversary Event

Who's the mystery character aiding Chris and Leon in RE: 6? Whoever he is, you'll get to play him.

Andriasang relayed some interesting tidbits about Resident Evil 6 following last week's Resident Evil Premiere Party. Interspersed between new tie-in product announcements including manga and a line of RE-branded shades, Executive producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi and director Eiichiro Sasaki revealed a few more details about the November sequel.

Of particular interest is the currently unnamed third playable character in Resident Evil 6 who is apparently the crew-cut blonde guy in the trailer. It's unknown how he's tied to Leon and Chris, the RE team did elaborate a bit on the story, reiterating some of the details of the press release—i.e. Leon has to put down the recently zombified president while Chris is battling the spreading zombie menace in China—as well as naming Secret Service agent accompanying Leon (Helena Harper). Also, "true" zombies, not the parasite-driven cultists of the previous games, will be the main bioweapon the heroes will be facing in the game and while Kobayashi wouldn't elaborate, he explained that there many secrets surrounding these zombies.

Meanwhile, Kotaku unearthed a listing for the game over on Xbox.com which describes Resident Evil 6 as having six-player co-op. Could this be a beefed-up version of the Mercenaries mode or an actual way to play the game's campaign using the three leads (and three backup characters)?

Resident Evil 6 will be out on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 November 20th.
