The strategic card-mod thing is ready to play with Capcom's promised free update for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
Looking to make your Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 experience just a little more complex? Well, Capcom has just the thing for you with their Heroes and Heralds mode which is part of an update that went live this morning (at least here in the U.S.). Heroes and Heralds is like a digital collectible card card game where you select a deck of three player-modifying cards in on- and offline matches, and earn more by winning matches. The cards give you a variety of abilities such as invisibility or tweaks to the X-Factor mode, with a current total of 104 cards available to mix it up in this new mode.
Capcom has provided a pretty handy in-game manual for the new mode that you can access at any time, but they've also detailed the functions and differences between online and offline Heroes and Heralds play. I haven't yet had a chance to dig into Heroes and Heralds (i'll be messing around with it throughout the week), but if the card collection goes as quickly as promised, it sounds like the kind of thing that could extend the life of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for a nice little while.
You can find a pretty comprehensive list of available cards over in the forums for the Capcom-Unity blog, and check out the trailer for the new mode below:
