'I Am Alive' Runs Down the Rules of Survival In This New Trailer

Rule number one: do NOT feed the cannibal babies.

Or do. They're your fingers, guy.

It's been a little while since we heard anything new from Ubisoft Shanghai's I Am Alive, a survival action game that's been in development for a few years now in what seems like fits and starts. After initially being conceived and built for a while as a retail title by the team at Darkworks, it moved over to Ubisoft Shanghai around 2010 where it was given a big rethink and then scaled back to a downloadable title.

The new trailer shows off what the team has been up to over the last year or so in getting I Am Alive into shape. Presented as a kind of survivor's video diary, it shows off some of the environments and survival elements of the game. I hesitate to say action, since it seems like most of the focus is, at this point, on traversal, navigation, and item collection. Also, you'll note that no combat is shown here, and I'm not sure if that's just because the Ubisoft team want to show a different facet to the game or if it's because combat might not be a huge deal with I Am Alive.

I'm curious about the spare, lonely feeling that Ubi Shanghai is going for here, but I do feel like the drab, dusty world might be a challenge to orient yourself in and explore.

I Am Alive will be hitting XBLA and PSN sometime in Q1 2012.
