NYC’s Astor Place Cube Gets Portal Makeover

By Stephen Brown

Aperture Science must have started its recruitment cycle at the California Institute of Technology this year, as merry pranksters from the school gave New York City’s Astor Place Cube a decidedly geeky makeover.

Alamo (the sculpture’s official name) was transformed into a larger-than-life Companion Cube last night, accompanied by a statement from the CalTech Prank Club. While city maintenance will surely “incinerate” the cube before long, it’s nice to know that nerdy New Yorkers got an extra treat on their morning commute, while the majority of passers-by remained oblivious to the prank’s context.
