Trailer Premiere: Naughty Dog’s ‘The Last Of Us’ [Update]

Naughty Dog gets into survival horror in their next title.

Update: developer Naughty Dog has provided an official synopsis for the game on their site:

The Last of Us is a genre-defining experience that blends survival and action elements to tell a character driven tale about a modern plague decimating mankind. Nature encroaches upon civilization, forcing remaining survivors to kill for food, weapons and whatever they can find. Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a brave young teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, must work together to survive their journey across what remains of the United States.

Naughty Dog, the studio behind Uncharted, is known for making gorgeous games with visually-rich, lush worlds. So what happens when they throw those skills at the living dead genre? That would be the upcoming PS3-exclusive, The Last of Us, from the trailer, involves a man and a young girl attempting to survive the zombie onslaught in a dying (or maybe already dead) world.

There’s no gameplay to speak of, but the nice and lengthy teaser does give a feel for the mood of the game—desperate and dangerous and definitely low on ammo. Will this be some kind of co-op experience a la Resident Evil 5 or maybe a character protection/escort action game similar to Enslaved or Ico?
