How do you gauge when a game has truly "made it" in this day and age? Units sold? Metacritic score? Hard to say. If there were any doubts before though that "Call of Duty: Black Ops" hadn't made it, you can now wipe those doubts away. Not only is the 2010 hit getting a downloadable Games On Demand release next week on Xbox Live, it is also now officially supported with a multiplayer-focused iOS guide published by BradyGames. You should also check out the new trailer for next week's zombie map, "Call of the Dead." Because it's awesome and stuff.
The BradyGames iOS guide runs for $2.99 in Apple's App Store. The First Strike Map Pack content isn't detailed and it's strictly competitive multiplayer-focused -- no zombie strats, sadly -- but there's a decent enough presentation. You scroll left and right through thumbnails of each map with finger swipes and tap what you want a closer look at.
Each map contains markings that point out windows and spawn points, as well as game type-specific elements which can be filtered in and out using a sub-menu. There are also tips for how to best use the various equipment types and suggested custom class setups.
Microsoft has also confirmed that "Call of Duty: Black Ops" will be released online next week as an Xbox Live Games On Demand title. No price is announced, but it'll probably be $59.99 like the others. That download will be out next Tuesday, on May 3, which is just in time for the new Escalation map pack, releasing the same day for 1200 MS Points.
