"LittleBigPlanet 2" has been delayed into 2011, but if you've had access to the beta test you probably have a reasonable idea of what they game will be capable of doing. A user named "RAPHAEL" certainly does, and he's set the gold standard for in-game "LBP2" DIY homages with a "Wolfenstein 3D" recreation.
For something that was rendered during the beta test, this demonstration is eerily accurate, right down to the goofy sound effects; and it should be able to avoid censorship in Germany in this state, since the creator left out the swastikas.
So how far will "LBP2" let players go? Will "Crazy Taxi" be next? And should publishers with old-school games on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network be worried? I doubt it, considering remakes like this won't be generating money for anyone and there's no substitute for the real thing, even in this case.
Still, it's going to be wild to see what kind of creative ecosystem sprouts up once the full-on game is out in the wild. I anxiously await the first fan-made "Civilization 5" and "God of War 3" ports, and though it seems impossible to think that anyone's going to invest the time to completely re-imagine those two modern masterpieces in "LBP2," I will remind you that someone somewhere created a scale replica of the Starship Enterprise in "Minecraft."
What games would you like to remake in "LBP2"? What do you think of the job RAPHAEL did with "Wolfenstein 3D"? Share your reactions with us in the comment section below.
